CLOONEY SISTERS: BETTY AND ROSEMARY CLOONEY
Vintage b/w General Artists Corporation publicity photo of the Clooney Sisters in matching flowered blouses and dark skirts, signed "My Best Always" by Rosemary Clooney and "Best of Everything" by Betty Clooney. Rosemary Clooney sang with the Clooney Sisters at the very start of her career in bandleader Tony Pastor's act before going solo in 1949.
Inscribed photograph signed "To Frank/Never tasted such/sandwiches in my life/Wonderfull -/ Best of Everything/Bettie [sic]" and "To Frank-/Wonderful Food/My Best Always/Rosemary-", both in blue ink. B/w, 8x10 overall, 7¼x8¾ image, one surface. Photo by General Artists Corporation. Captioned: "CLOONEY SISTERS/FEATURED WITH/TONY PASTOR and His Orchestra". ROSEMARY CLOONEY (1928-2002, born in Beverly Hills, California) and younger sister BETTY CLOONEY (1931-1976, born Elizabeth Clooney in Maysville, Kentucky) began singing duets on the radio in 1945 while living with their grandfather in Cincinnati, Ohio. After touring with bandleader Tony Pastor for several years, Rosemary, determined to make a living at singing, broke up the duo and moved to New York to begin her solo career. Rosemary signed at Columbia and had her first hit, Come On'a My House, by 1951. Both sisters wound up in TV, with Rosemary making frequent TV appearances and headlining her own variety show in 1955, and Betty appearing as a singer and host on a number of shows on Cincinnati's first TV station, WLWT. Lightly toned, soiled, cracked, creased and bowed. Pen skipped while writing Rosemary Clooney's signature, which is legible. Errors in negative were reproduced in photo. Lightly dented at bottom edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
