CLYDE BEATTY
He pens an autograph letter saying that he will sign his book but has forgotten the name to write
Autograph Letter signed: "Clyde Beatty", 1¼p, 7¼x10½. No place, no date but Saturday. To: "Dear Voaltea Coinchell". In full: "I was so busy getting my Lions and tigers placed in the garden today. That you and I didn't have a chance for a real visit. But I know your daughters had a birthday today and I would like to give her a birthday present, and maybe a present she would like would be a signed copy of my book. I have forgotten her first name so send it to me here and I will write in the book for her and send the book to you're office or where ever you may. With kindest regards, Sincerely yours," Lion tamer and animal trainer Clyde Beatty (1903-1965) is best remembered for his "fighting act" -- in which he entered a cage of snarling beasts armed only with a bullwhip and a pistol strapped to his hip. By the 1930s, Beatty owned outright or allowed his name to be used by different circuses for which he performed. Beatty was also popular in feature films during the 1930s-1950s. Fold creases not at signature. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at upper right. Staple holes at upper left corner. Lower right corner folded over. Otherwise, fine condition.
