Clyde Beatty (1903-1965) is best remembered for his "fighting act" -- in
which he entered a cage of snarling beasts armed only with a bullwhip and a
pistol strapped to his hip. By the 1930s, Beatty owned outright or allowed
his name to be used by different circuses for which he performed. Beatty was
also popular in feature films during the 1930s-1950s. He inscribed
this photograph to Shemp Howard, his co-star in the 1949 Abbott & Costello
film, Africa Screams. Fine condition.
