Autograph Letter signed: "Clyde King", 1 page, 5½x8½. No place, no date. On New York
Yankees letterhead, from the desk of Clyde King, written to "Dear Mr. Massa". In full: "Im
sending the picture you requested and I hope it is satisfactory- Was not sure exactly what type you
needed, but hope this will be okay- Good luck to your program, it sounds interesting- Sincerely"
Clyde King (1924-2010) was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He played for several
years in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization (1944-1952), and played a short stint with the
Cincinnati Reds to end his career. A pitcher, his career statistics include a record of 32-25, an
ERA of 4.14 and 150 strikeouts. He later served as manager of three major league ball clubs,
the San Francisco Giants (1969-1970), Atlanta Braves (1974-1975) and New York
Yankees (1982). King also served as the Yankees general manager from 1985 to 1986.
