CLYDE McCOY
Handwritten note telling Marie to "keep on pitchin'"
Autograph Note signed: "To/Marie -/Keep on pitchin'/Sincerely,/Clyde McCoy", 3½x2 card. (McCoy has drawn both capital "C"s to resemble the treble cleft sign.) Clyde McCoy (1903-1990) born to the mountain family famed for its feud with the Hatfields, was a trumpet player and band leader for six decades but had his greatest popularity in the 1930s and 1940s. As a trumpeter he was known for his "wah-wah" mute, which could produce a wide range of sounds. His bands, which played mostly Dixieland and swing, had moderate success in ball rooms before McCoy's theme song, "Sugar Blues" became a big hit in 1930 and led to recording contracts. During World War II, the entire band enlisted in the US Navy and entertained troops throughout the war. McCoy co-founded Downbeat magazine in 1935. Lightly foxed. Otherwise, fine condition.
