Typed letter signed "Colleen-" in blue ink, 1p, 6x6¾. On stationery from El Ranchito in Templeton, California, 1978 September 8. Addressed to Patrick Mahony, Hollywood, California. In full: "Dear Pat: I have just returned from Alaska and found your letter. I will put a tracer on the book, meantime I am sending you another one by tomorrow's mail. Best wishes, Colleen Moore Hargrave CMH/bl". The letter has a closing of "Colleen Moore Hargrave", after her third husband Homer P. Hargrave. Accompanied by: Handwritten 1-page biography, written in unknown hand. Moore (1900-1988, born Kathleen Morrison in Port Huron, Michigan) was the quintessential "flapper" of the 1920s in silent and early talking films (as in It Must Be Love, Ella Cinders, both 1926). Playing against type in her last starring role, she portrayed Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter (1934). Moore returned to the screen in 1961, playing a supporting role in a remake of one of her most memorable screen roles, 1933's The Power and the Glory. A canny investor, Moore authored three books on investing an finance, including How Women Can Make Money in the Stock Market. Lightly toned and stained. Stain near date, which has turned paper translucent. Folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
