AL WORDEN
Color photograph of the Apollo 15 Command Module's splashdown, with images of the mission patch and crew, signed by Command Module Pilot Al Worden
Composite photograph signed "Al Worden/Apollo 15". Color, 11x8½ overall, 10¾x8 image, one surface. Apollo 15's splashdown was at 4:47 p.m. EDT on Aug. 7 - 12 days, 7 hours and 12 minutes after launch - and about 6 miles from the recovery vessel USS Okinawa. As is apparent in this photo, one of the Command Module's three parachutes failed, resulting in a hard but safe landing. This is a photographic reproduction of a computer printout. Alfred Merrill "Al" Worden (1932-2020) was serving in the U.S. Air Force when he was among the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966. A member of the astronaut support crew for Apollo 9 and the backup command module pilot for Apollo 12, Worden was the command module pilot for Apollo 15 (July 26-August 7, 1971). He logged 38 minutes of EVAs outside the "Endeavor". Worden was later President of Maris Worden Aerospace, Inc. and Vice President of BF Goodrich Aerospace (Bucksville, Ohio). Lightly creased and bowed, otherwise in fine condition. Printing errors, which do not touch signature. Image is grainy. Otherwise, fine condition.
