The World War II ace writes to a recent veteran about the combat service of O'Sullivan's sons.
Autograph Letter signed: "Sully", 1 page, 4¼x5½. No place, 2005 June 6. On personal letterhead featuring a P-38 fighter to "Dear Adam", in full: "Our 2nd son, Peter Sullivan (a major general) flew in Mogadishu. He & his brother Steve both flew combat missions in Vietnam War. Congratulations on your service to our country. Cordially [signature] Included picture and bio." [Items not included.] Charles P. O'Sullivan earned ace status by downing 5 Japanese aircraft over the South Pacific in 1942 and 1943, but his adventures were only beginning. On September 20, 1943, O'Sullivan's P-38 fighter was shot down, and he crashed landed in the jungle of New Guinea. After two days he entered a native village, only to flee for his life after learning that he had encountered head hunters. One month later, he finally made contact with Australian commandos and made radio contact with his unit. O'Sullivan's story was made into an acclaimed 2009 documentary film, Slightly Wounded ...
