Manuscript Document Signed: "Emilio Avalos" and "Pedro Llanes" in iron gall ink. 10x8. Fully Translated in English: "Emilio Avalos y Acosta, Colonel of the Liberation Army and First Chief of the Cavalry Regiment 'Habana'. I certify: that during the time Commandant Jose Lauvas y Osuna offered his services in this regiment he had the best behavior, showing great courage, intelligence and patriotism in the many war actions he took part of. And in order that this can be proved anytime, I issue this letter in P. y L. Quero on 3, 1899. The Colonel 1st Chief. Emilio Avalos. The Chief Commander Pedro Llanes." Emilio Avalos y Acosta was a liberal activist for the independence of Cuba who held the title of Colonel of the Liberation Army and 1st Chief of the Cavalry Regiment.
