Photograph signed: "Fred J. Christiansen Jr.". Color, 8x10. Printed
caption in lower center lists Christiansen's combat record and names the members
of his ground crew. Flying with the 56th Fighter Group based in England,
American fighter pilot Christensen, Jr. (1921-2006) scored 21.5 air
victories in World War II, the 12th highest among Army Air Corps aces. He
flew 107 combat missions in 1943 and 1944. Christensen adopted a stray black
cat, Sinbad, which reportedly flew in the cockpit with him on numerous missions
and returned to the U. S. as his pet. Christensen was base commander of the Air
National Guard unit at Boston's Logan Airport before retiring as a colonel in
1970. He was also a jazz musician. Fine condition.
