Shown during a spacewalk on his Skylab mission
Photograph signed: "Jack Lousma/Spacewalk/Skylab II". Color, 8x10 Jack Lousma, an aeronautical engineer and Marine recon pilot, became an astronaut in 1966. He was scheduled to land on the moon with Apollo 20, which was cancelled, but he was the pilot of Skylab-3 (1973), performing 11 hours of space walk on that mission. The Skylab mission designations are confusing: four Skylab orbiting workshops were launched, but the first was unmanned. Hence Lousma's mission was designated both Skylab 3 and SLM-2. That's why he has written Skylab II here. In March 1982, Lousma flew the space shuttle on its final orbital test flight. In 1984 Lousma, a Republican, narrowly lost a bid for a US Senate seat from Michigan, after his Democratic opponent (Carl Levin) released film of Lousma telling an audience of Japanese auto makers that he owned a Japanese car. Fine condition.
