Autograph Letter Signed: "Juan de Leon" in iron gall ink. 12½x8¼. 4 pages.Fully Translated in English: "Delegate of the Treasure Emilio Latulades: 'In campaign' I received your kind letter no. 921 book 2. Replying to your letters, I tell you that it was not possible for me to grand your petition because I am informed about the no favorable events to our cause made by some citizens who are always with the firm purpose of helping the enemy. Due to what you say, I will immediately communicate and ask the Chief of the 2o. Brigade General Prudencio Martinez to please order me whatever he thinks is necessary. As to myself, I can tell you that as soon as I receive the approval from the Chief of Brigade I will try with so much determination to effect your manifesto. And I communicate all of this with you for the uses you consider pertinent. Fatherland and Liberty. Lucio, September 21, 1897. Yours with all consideration and affection, Colonel 2o. Chief. Juan de Leon was a Colonel who fought for the independence of Cuba and was the commander for a while of Manuel Despaigne y Rivery. Signer merits for further research. Edges and folds lightly frayed.
