Signature of the pilot on Challenger's maiden voyage
Envelope signed: "Karol J. Bobko", 6½x3¾. Karol J. Bobko (b. 1937) was a member of the first graduating class of the Air Force Academy (1959), received his wings in 1960 and became a NASA astronaut in 1969. A crewmember of the Skylab Medical Experiments Altitude Test, he remained a support crew member until the STS-6 in 1983. As pilot on the maiden voyage of Challenger, he spent 120 hours in space and then landed on the concrete runway at Edwards AFB. His second mission was as commander of STS-51-D (1985) and his final was as commander on the maiden voyage of Atlantis (1985). Bobko retired from NASA and the Air Force in 1988. Fine condition.
