our cherished fatherland, remained a slave, having children like you, who have
cooperated to its redemption encouraging the soldiers who fight for the
independence with your kindness and services. I congratulate you for your wise
patriotism. Fatherland and Liberty in Campaign, 'El Guayabal', Septemebr 6,
1898.Colonel Miguel Gribarreu." Miguel Gribarreu was a Colonel who
fought for the independence of Cuba against the colonial Spanish authorities.
