A US Air Force pilot who flew 134 combat missions in Vietnam (1969), Richard "Mike" Mullane (b. 1945) joined NASA as an astronaut in 1969. He was a mission specialist on three space shuttle flights STS-41D, 27 and 36. On the first of these, the maiden flight of Discovery, he conducted science experiments and helped deploy three satellites. The other two missions aboard Atlantis were classified DOD missions. Since retiring from the Air Force, Mullane has written four books, including a techno-thriller, Red Sky. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
