SHERWOOD C. "WOODY" SPRING The NASA astronaut pens his name on this commemorative envelope honoring the Pacific Missile Test Center Commemorative Envelope Signed: "Woody Spring " 6½x3½. Envelope contains a black and white cachet honoring the Pacific Missile Test Center printed on left-hand side. Postmarked twice (Oxnard, CA and Port Mugu, CA). One 20¢ U.S. flag stamp affixed. Sherwood C. "Woody" Spring (b.1944) was a mission specialist on Atlantis STS-61B, the space flight occurring from November 26 through December 3, 1985. Three communications satellites were launched during the mission, as well as 2 EVAs (Extra Vehicular Activities). Before being selected as a NASA astronaut in 1980, Spring received a general engineering degree from the United States Military Academy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His post-NASA activities have included working for the Army Space Program Office and TASC, Inc. (The Application Science Corporation). Fine condition.
