VOSTOK COSMONAUTS: YURI GAGARIN, GHERMAN S. TITOV and PAVYEL POPOVICH
Signed photograph showing the three famous cosmonauts laughing and at ease.
Photograph signed: "Gagarin" "Titov" and "Popovich" in Russian. B/w, 4½x3½ overall, image 4½x2¾ (one surface). On April 12, 1961, YURI GAGARIN (1934-1968), aboard Vostok 1, made the first space flight by a human being (1 hour and 48 minutes), putting the Soviet Union ahead in the space race. GHERMAN S. TITOV (1935-2000) then made the first multi-orbital flight aboard Vostok 2 (17 orbits in 25 hours and 18 minutes, August 6-7, 1961). The first dual launch took place on August 11 and 12, 1962. Vostok 4, manned by PAVYEL POPOVICH (1930-2009), came within three miles of Vostok 3 during its first orbit. Vostok 3 completed 64 orbits in 94 hours and 24 minutes, while Vostok 4 made 48 orbits in 70 hours and 57 minutes. Signed group photographs of Russian cosmonauts are rare. This one most likely was taken in 1962 after Popovich's flight, when only four cosmonauts had made it into space. Fine condition.
