YURI GAGARIN
He signs as a featured speaker at the Moscow University Aviation Club
Inscribed Invitation signed: "[untranslated inscription]/ Gagarin" in Russian, 4p, 4x5½. On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) became the first man in space aboard Vostok 1. His flight of one Earth orbit lasted only 1 hour and 48 minutes. Upon his return, Gagarin was celebrated as a hero in the Soviet Union; monuments were raised to him and streets named in his honor. Sadly, Gagarin would never make it to space again. He was in training for another mission when the Mig-15 he was piloting crashed in 1968. Lightly creased and soiled. Faint yellow stain touches paragraph of signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
