ARCHIBALD BRUCE “A.B.” CAMPBELLThe British naval officer and radio broadcaster famous for his membership in The Brains Trust signed this document Autograph Sentiment Signed: “Best wishes / from / Campbell / Comdr. / Brains Trust” in dark ink on a 2½x2 piece of paper. This clipping is adhered, along with a 1½x1¾ headshot, to a textured 3½x5¼ piece of cardstock. A. B. Campbell (1881-1966) was a British naval officer during WWI, acting as the paymaster-commander of the HMS Otranto. He survived the ship's sinking in 1918 and gradually moved into radio broadcasting, first working for the BBC in 1935. He became very popular on his own, but his radio career really took off when he was made an inaugural member of The Brains Trust, the men on the eponymous radio show. First aired in 1941, Campbell, along with philosopher C. E. M. Joad and biologist Julian Huxley, did their best to answer questions asked by listeners. The questions could be on almost any subject, although questions on religion and politics were eventually banned. Campbell left the radio show in 1946, becoming a writer who published biographies and children's fiction, and even a play. Worn edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
