CONRAD HILTON
Hilton writes regarding AMERICA ON ITS KNEES prayer
Typed Letter Signed: "Conrad N. Hilton", 1p, 7¼x10½. Beverly Hills, California, 1958 August 26. On letterhead of Hilton Hotels Corporation to Mrs. M.E. Tilly, Director of Women's Work. In full: "Glad you were pleased with AMERICA ON ITS KNEES. I am enclosing with this letter a little memorandum [not present] which will give you the information you need in order to order these prayers in quantity." Conrad Hilton (1887-1979), who bought his first hotel in Cisco, Texas in 1919, acquired enough Texas properties to enable him to build his own hotel in Dallas in 1925. Although the Depression forced him to reduce his operations, by 1939 he was building and acquiring again. In 1946, Hilton organized his chain of properties into the Hilton Hotel Corporation. Three years later, he acquired the nation's most prestigious hotel, the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Today the firm owns over 2,000 hotels in sixteen countries. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper left blank corner, 2 file holes at upper blank margin. Fine condition.
