Autograph note signed: "To John -/Sincerely/Conrad Nagel" and on verso "To John Day,/Sincerely/Blanche Sweet", 9¼x6¾. CONRAD NAGEL (1897-1970) made his professional stage debut in 1914 and his first film appearance four years later. A major star of silent and early talking films, Nagel played character roles in his later years and hosted a TV show, The Silver Theater. One of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Pictures and its President for two years (1931-1933), Nagel was active in originating the Academy Awards. BLANCHE SWEET (1895-1986) worked in silent films under D.W. Griffith and Cecil B. DeMille. She was best known for the title role in the 1923 film, Anna Christie, She appeared in only three "talkies" before returning to the stage, appearing in plays on Broadway and with touring companies. Sweet returned to the screen for a final time in the 1959 film, The Five Pennies. Unevenly toned. Nicked on lower left edge. One-inch tear at upper right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
