The British politician signs this slip of paper in iron gall ink
Signature: "Normanby" 4¾x1¾ affixed to a 7x3 sheet of paper with additional clipping, 5x¾,
identifying signature. Slip of paper on which signature appears also contains a sentiment that is
not written in the Marquess's hand. Constantine Phipps, Marquess of Normanby I
(1797-1863), who was known as the Viscount Normanby from 1812 to 1831 and briefly as
The Earl of Mulgrave (1831-1838) was a British politician affiliated with the Whig party.
From 1835 to 1839, he notably served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Then, he became Home
Secretary from 1839 to 1841. Moreover, between 1846 and 1852, Phipps functioned as the
British Ambassador to France. Slip of paper on which signature is written is stained along right
edge and worn at corners. Ink note and fold in sheet of paper to which signature paper is
affixed. Otherwise, fine condition.
