of State under Franklin D. Roosevelt, CORDELL HULL (1871-1955) was the chief
architect of the Good Neighbor Policy toward Latin America. He had previously represented
Tennessee as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives (1907-1921, 1923-1931) and
U.S. Senate (1931-1933) and had served as Chairman of the Democratic National
Executive Committee (1921-1924). Early in World War II, Hull began planning a postwar
international organization that would become the United Nations. In 1945, "the Father
of the United Nations" was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Soiled. Creased. Residue and
