CORDELL HULL and FRANCES HULL
Pink fabric signed in black ink
Fabric signed: "Cordell Hull", "Frances Hull", irregularly cut 4¼x2¾ pink cotton fabric. As Secretary of State under Franklin D. Roosevelt, CORDELL HULL (1871-1955) was the chief architect of the Good Neighbor Policy toward Latin America. He had previously represented Tennessee as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives (1907-1921, 1923-1931) and U.S. Senate (1931-1933) and had served as Chairman of the Democratic National Executive Committee (1921-1924). Early in World War II, Hull began planning a postwar international organization that would become the United Nations. In 1945, "the Father of the United Nations" was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Rose Frances Whitney married Cordell Hull in 1917. She predeceased him by one year and is buried beside him at the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. Edges of fabric slightly frayed. Ink has bled at "r" of "Frances." Otherwise, fine condition.
