Todd.In full: "The Count of Nesselrode has the honor to return to Monsieur Colonel Todd the American newspaper which he had been good to send to him. He was elected a member of the Imperial agricultural society from which foreigners had previously been excluded. His policies towards the Ottoman Empire and France helped precipitate the Crimean War (1853-1856). COUNT KARL VON NESSELRODE (1780-1862) was Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs (1822-1856) and Chancellor (1845-1862). In honor of his negotiation of the Treaty of Paris in 1856 ending the Crimean War, his Chef, Monsieur Mouy, created Nesselrode pudding out of custard flavored with maraschino, chestnut purée and chopped candied fruits that had been macerated in Málaga wine. Small square portion cut off from blank upper right corner. Light show through at corners from mounting remnants on verso. Folds, lightly stained.
