CRYSTAL GAYLE

Inscribed photograph signed: "Alex,/Best
Always/Crystal/Gayle". Color, 8x10. Crystal Gayle, the youngest sister of
country legend Loretta Lynn, was born Brenda Gayle Webb in 1951. Lynn, who
suggested the name Crystal, invited her sister to join her road show when Gayle
was just 16. Known for her big ballad voice and ankle-length mane of brown
hair, Gayle became a popular country and pop entertainer, touring worldwide
(in 1979, she became the first U.S. country artist to tour China) and
starring in three television specials as well as recording. Her signature
song, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", was her biggest hit, and the
album on which it was featured, We Must Believe in Magic, was the first
by a female country music artist to go platinum. Gayle's other hits include
"I'll Get Over You", her first No. 1 single (1976), "Brown Eyes", "Talking in
Your Sleep" and "You and I" (1982, a duet with Eddie Rabbit). Her many awards
include a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance (1977), Academy
of Country Music Top New Female Vocalist (1975), Academy of Country Music Top
Female Vocalist (1976, 1977, 1979), CMA Female Vocalist of the Year (1977, 1979)
and American Music Awards Favorite Female Artist (1979, 1980, 1986). Gayle
was also nominated for a Grammy for her inspirational album, Someday.
