CURT SIODMAK
A harrowing letter from the author in response to his greatest achievement life, saying that his proudest achievement was escaping death by the Nazis: "The Nazis were very kind to each other, but everybody had to be killed....My wife who is Swiss got me out before the Nazis cooked us in their ovens"
Autograph letter signed: "Curt Siodmak", in black ink, 2 pages, 8½x11. In response to a letter asking which achievement he is most proud of. In part: "The Nazis were very kind to each other, but everybody had to be killed. I didn't see it, having been born in February. My wife who is Swiss got me out before the Nazis cooked us in their ovens, that's my greatest achievement in my life - staying alive! The rest is curiosity and private entertainment". German author Curt Siodmak (1902-2000), brother to film director Robert Siodmak, is a successful screenwriter and novelist of science fiction works. His first successful work was the novel F.P.1 Antwortet Nicht, which was later turned into a popular film. Another novel, Donovan's Brain, was turned into several different films; one in 1943, one in 1953, and one in 1962. His most notable contribution to film is his creation of the Wolf Man, with his screenplay being turned into the 1943 film The Wolf Man, which in turn spawned several werewolf legends used in modern interpretations of the creature. Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
