The creator of the Naval air force adds a short sentiment to his signature as Secretary of the Navy.
Printed Card signed in ink: "Sincerely Yours/Curtis D Wilbur", 4¾x2½ card of the US Secretary of the Navy, affixed to 6x4½ album leaf. Curtis Dwight Wilbur (1867-1954), a Naval Academy graduate (1884), practiced law in California, rising to the position of Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court in 1918. As Secretary of the Navy (1924-1929) in the Coolidge administration, Wilbur established the naval air force, a crucial component of victory in the Pacific two decades later. After leaving this post he was appointed to a federal judgeship. The guided missile destroyer Curtis Wilbur was commissioned in 1994. Binding holes in left edge. Fine condition.
