C.W. Gusewelle " in black felt tip, 5½x3½. C.W. Gusewelle (b. 1933) is a journalist and
author. After graduating from Westminster College in 1955, Gusewelle began working for
The Kansas City Star. From 1956-1958, Gusewelle served with the Army's 82nd Airborne
Division. Upon returning from service, he moved up the ranks at The Kansas City Star
from general assignment reporter to editorial writer on foreign affairs topics in 1966.
Then, in 1976, he became the foreign editor. By 1979, Gusewelle was working as an associate
editor and columnist. He was named daily columnist of the year by the Missouri Press
Association in 1984, 1985, and 1987. Gusewelle's writing has appeared in notable
publications such as The Paris Review, American Heritage, and Harper's, among others.
In fact, in 1977 he was awarded The Paris Review's Aga Khan Prize for Fiction.
Moreover, Gusewelle wrote and narrated several acclaimed documentaries including This
Place Called Home (1997) and Water and Fire: A Story of the Ozarks (2000). Typed
