Longtime Irish actor sends letter to fan, signs name in blue ink
Autograph letter signed: "Cyril Cusack" in blue felt tip. 1 page, 6x8. Written on personal letterhead. March 29, 1986. In full: "O Clara, Thank you for your letter. Most of my photographs are in Dublin + I do not have my [illegible] than the enclosed to send you. I trust you will be satisfied with this. And thank you for your good wishes. Best wishes + thoughts". Cyril Cusack (1910-1993) was born to an English Cockney actress named Alice Violet who performed with the O'Brien and Ireland Players, leading Cusack to earn his first stage credit at the age of seven. Cusack joined the Abbey Theatre in 1932 in his own right, where for the next thirteen years he performed in over sixty productions, most notably in the plays of author Sean O'Casey. After spending years traveling around the world with his own theatre company, Cusack joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in London in 1963, and earned a Jacob's Award for his performance in Triptych (1963). Cusack was fluent in both English and Irish, and starred in the controversial Irish language film Poitin (1977), as well as many other films such as A Terrible Beauty (1960), All the Way, Boys (1973) and True Confessions (1981).
