Postcard Photograph, unsigned. Color, 4x6. Shown in the title role
of the stage play Hadrian VII (1970). Born in South Africa and
raised in Ireland, Cyril Cusack (1910-1993) performed on Irish stages
from age 7. Too short for most leading man roles, he played very recognizable
character roles in a 75-year film career. He was "Control" in The Spy Who
Came In From the Cold, the Captain in Farenheit 451 and Lord
Castlewelland in My Left Foot. He had a rare title role as
Galileo (1968). Cusack played a high-ranking Catholic clerics many
times, but only this once attained the rank of Pope.Cusack had his own
stage company in the late 1940s, performing in Ireland, New York and Paris. He
was offered the role of Doctor Who in 1963, and turned it down. Corners
slightly worn. Lightly toned. Image textured. Ink stain on verso. Fine
condition.
