Carolina. In full: "I have your letter, telling me of your interesting
collection of former public officials. I am glad to enclose my former official

Cyrus Rowlett Smith (1899-1990), who went by "C. R." most of his life, was
CEO of American Airlines from 1934 to 1968, interrupted by World War II
service with the US Air Transport Command. As CEO he was renowned for his
hands on style, and early in his tenure claimed to know every American Airlines
employee by name! He was US Commerce Secretary in the final year of the
Johnson administration (1968). Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned at top
edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
