DABNEY COLEMAN
The actor famed for his portrayal of unlikable characters commits to a new film role.
Document signed: "Dabney Coleman", 8p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1973 June 26. Memorandum of Agreement with St. George Productions, Inc., committing Coleman to portray "Huntley" in the film Here There Be Dragons for $1,000 per week, guaranteed for one week, with the Producer's option to require Coleman's services for additional weeks at the same rate. Signed on p2. Additional provisions cover his travel (to Darwin, Australia) and his billing in publicity and credits ("also starring"). Coleman proved adept at playing unlikable and untrustworthy movie characters, and parlayed that image into big success on television. After a supporting stint on the TV sitcom That Girl, Coleman was cast in 1976 on TV's soap opera spoof Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Four years later, he played the nasty boss who gets his comeuppance in 9 to 5 (1980); and subsequently co-starred in On Golden Pond (1981) and The Beverly Hillbillies (1993). His Buffalo Bill (1983) scored him an Emmy nomination as TV's first truly obnoxious central character. Apparently, the film featured in this contract was never completed. Binder and staple holes at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
