DABNEY HORTON. TLS: "Dabney Horton", 1p, 5¾x7. Northport, New York, 1963 November 8. On sheet imprinted with his address to "Dear Mr. Stanhope". In full: "This is the only recent snapshot I have left, but is (sic, it) certainly shows me in a very characteristic pose in a corner of my workshop. Since retirement I have been making model cannon for the Elder Craftsmen Shop in New York, and doing voluntary shop work for a nearby home for the blind. These activities keep me busy, and keep my tools from rusting. I am only seventy-two, and have one very good eye and a quorum of teeth, and my doctor promises me truly that my heart will last as long as I will. What more can I ask? Cordially yours". Photograph not present. Dabney D. Horton (1891-1968) was a Sergeant in the French Aviation Service during WWI. An American who was stationed in Paris, he wrote about his service in a 1925 article in "The Nation". Slightly creased with fold (not at signature). Fine condition.
