DAI DAVIES
The boxer from Skewan, Area flyweight champ from Wales in 1950 to 1951, is shown in bare-fisted stance
Photograph signed on verso: "Dai Davies". B/w, 3x5½. Dai Davies (b. 1922) is shown as Wales Area Flyweight Champion, a title he held from 1951 to 1953. (He never attained the British crown anticipated by the caption, losing a title bout to Ronnie Clayton (June 30, 1952). He finished his pro career with a record of 31-22-8, scoring 19 knockouts and suffering 7. Dai Davies is a common Welsh name, and the impressively researched UK website, Boxinghistory, lists no fewer than 14 boxers bearing that name, from a Dai "Chips" Davies, whose career was ended by World War I, to the Dai Davies of Merthyr Tydfil who held the Welsh Super Featherweight crown (2006-2008, 2009-2012), and still hopes to reclaim it. Signature slightly smeared, but legible. Pencil notes (unknown hand). Ink stamps. Slightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
