DALE WASSERMAN
3x5 card signed "'There's no credit in going crazy by accident; you've got to do it by design'", by Dale Wasserman's paraphrase of a line from his Tony-winning play Man of La Mancha
Autograph quotation signed "'There's no credit in/going crazy by accident;/ you've got to do it/by design'./Dale Wasserman". 4¾x3 card. This quotation is his paraphrase of a line spoken by Don Quixote to Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha: "For a knight-errant to run mad upon just any occasion is not meritorious; no, the rarity is to run mad with purpose." A self-educated playwright who was orphaned before he was 10 and claimed not to have even a birth certificate, Wasserman (1914 or 1917 to 2008, born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin) is probably best known as the playwright who wrote Man of La Mancha and the stage adaptation of Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Man of La Mancha's first Broadway run was from 1965 to 1971 over an impressive 2,328 performances and won the 1966 Tony Award for Best Musical; it has since been revived on the Great White Way four times as of this biography. Wasserman also wrote for TV and Movies between 1948 and 1975 and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1961 for an episode of The Dupont Show of the Month. Signature has bled lightly but is still legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
