DALLAS COWBOYS (1996)
Preseason Cowboys training camp hat, signed by competitors for spots on the team
Hat signed by Larry Allan, Bill Bates, Clay Shiver, Jason Shelley, Mike Ulufale, Eric Bjornson, and several more. White cap with blue bill, used at the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp in Austin, Texas, 1996. All signatures are in black felt tip. Offensive guard LARRY ALLAN (b. 1971) a 2nd round draft pick from Sonoma State, became an 11-time Pro Bowl selection (more than any other Cowboys offensive player) and earned a championship ring with the team in Super Bowl XXX. Safety BILL BATES (b. 1961), from the University of Tennessee, was considered too small and therefore went undrafted. Picked up by the Cowboys, he played for them from 1983 through 1997, a Pro Bowl selection in 1984. Offensive lineman CLAY SHIVER (b. 1972), a two-time All-American at Florida State and winner of the Jacobs Trophy there (as best blocker in the Atlantic Coast Conference), played three pro seasons with the Cowboys, and one more with the Carolina Panthers, his career cut short by a shoulder injury. Running back JASON SHELLEY (b. 1974), out of Central State College, didn't make the Cowboys, but played four seasons of American football in Europe (1997-2000) with Frankfurt and Amsterdam of NFL Europe. Defensive tackle MIKE ULUFALE (b. 1972) was a third round draft pick out of Brigham Young University. He played for the Cowboys in 1996, and later returned to his native Hawaii to coach the Ewa Beach Hammerheads. Tight end ERIC BJORNSON (b. 1971) was a fourth round draft selection from the University of Washington. He played four seasons with the Cowboys (1995-1999), and one more with the New England Patriots. Not every signer of this hat made the team, of course, but there are more names here worthy of research by a Dallas Cowboys fan. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
