The famous actress pens her autograph on this 4¼x2¾ card for a fan, signed in blue ink
Autograph Note Signed: "To Kayo/Sincerely/Edith Evans" in blue ink. 4¼x2¾ with 1½x2¾
color magazine photograph attached (two surfaces). Edith Evans (1888-1976) was an English
TV, stage and film actress. Evans made her film debut in 1915, but dropped film roles for
over three decades to concentrate on stage roles. Her first stage appearance was in 1910 as
Viola in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the first of over 150 roles over a six-decade career,
including roles with the Old Vic Company, which she joined in 1925. She returned to films
in 1949 and found steady work in movies and TV thereafter. Evans was nominated for three
Oscars for her roles in Tom Jones (1963), The Chalk Garden (1964) and The Whisperers
(1967). She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1946. Ink and pencil
notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
