They sign opposite sides of a small piece of green paper.
Signatures: "Rose Macaulay" and on verso "Will
Lawther", 5¼x3¾ album leaf with 2½x1 piece of green paper with Macaulay's
signature. English author Emilie ROSE MACAULAY (1881-1958) wrote 35 books,
mostly novels but also travelogues and a biography of John Milton. Her
most critically acclaimed novel was her final one, The Towers of
Trebizond (1956), a semi-autobiographical tale on the theme of
reconciling adultery and religious faith. She was made a Dame of the British
Empire shortly before her death. WILL LAWTHER (1880-1976) was a
Labour Member of Parliament (1929-1931), Vice-President and then
President of Britain's National Union of Mineworkers (1934-1939,
1939-1954) and President of the Trade Union Congress (1949). Lightly
jagged at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
