British actress Dame Flora Robson (1902-1984), who made her stage debut in 1921, appeared in feature films from 1931-1981. Although she is best known for her queenly and aristocratic roles, including twice portraying Queen Elizabeth I (Fire Over England, 1937; The Sea Hawk, 1940), Robson was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a mulatto maidservant in the 1946 film, Saratoga Trunk. Robson, whose film credits also include Catherine the Great (1934), Wuthering Heights (1939), 55 Days at Peking (1963) and Dominique (1978) as well as TV movies and miniseries, was knighted Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1960 for her contributions to the theater.
