Black and white publicity shot from the 1956 film The Ten Commandments signed in blue ink
Photograph signed: "Judith Anderson". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x9 (one surface). Depicted in her role as Memnet in Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 biblical epic, The Ten Commandments, which starred Charlton Heston as Moses, Yul Brynner as Rameses and Anne Baxter (also pictured) as Nefretiri. Australian-born stage, screen and television actress Judith Anderson (1897-1992), born Frances Margaret Anderson, was an acclaimed Shakespearean actress often cast in villainous roles. She was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role as Mrs. Danvers, the obsessed housekeeper in the 1940 Hitchcock film, Rebecca. Her other film roles included the wicked stepmother of Jerry Lewis (Cinderfella, 1960), a Sioux matriarch (A Man Called Horse, 1970) and a Vulcan priestess (Star Trek III, 1984). Anderson, who made her television debut in 1951 (Pulitzer Prize Playhouse), appeared in a number of early TV anthology series, and she had guest starring roles on such series as Hallmark Hall of Fame (six episodes from 1954-1969) and Santa Barbara (recurring role as Minx Lockridge, 1984-1987). Anderson was named Dame Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1960. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, minor scratches at upper blank margin, nicked at blank right edge. Minor surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on). Overall, fine condition.
