British stage and screen actress Peggy Ashcroft (1907-1991) won the 1984 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (A Passage to India) at age 77. A veteran of the British stage, with many Shakespearean roles to her credit, Ashcroft made her film debut in The Wandering Jew in 1933, four years before she first appeared on Broadway. She appeared in a number of feature films, including Alfred Hitchcock's The Thirty Nine Steps (1935) and in The Nun's Story (1959), as well as a number of made-for-TV movies. She was made a Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956.Slightly creased at bottom right corner. 2-inch blue ink line at top left corner (barely visible). Otherwise, fine condition.
