Signatures: "Sybil Thorndike Casson", "Lewis Casson", "Billy Milton", "Richard Goolden" and "Olaf Olsen", 2 pages, 11x8¼ guest register. A stage actress well versed in Shakespeare, Dame SYBIL THORNDIKE(1882-1976) portrayed such characters as Medea, Lady MacBeth, Queen Victoria and Joan of Arc. George Bernard Shaw is said to have written St Joan (1924) with Thorndike in mind for the part. Her occasional films included Dawn (1928), Major Barbara (1941), Nicholas Nickleby (1948) and Melba (1952). LEWIS CASSON, to whom Sybil Thorndike was married for 60 years unti his death, starred in some films of the 1930s (Night Club Queen, Little Friend), then remained on screen in character roles until the early 1960s. MILTON, a singer and actor, starred in English musicals and on radio and appeared in the slick thriller No Escape (1936).GOOLDEN (1894-1981) appeared in character roles, primarily in British films, between 1935 and 1970. OLSEN, another supporting actor, appeared on screen 1938-1952. The register, which merits further research, contains 13 signatures in all, those not listed above being either indecipherable or unidentified. Frayed and stained near margins, with random ink marks, but signatures are very clear.
