Photograph signed: "Wendy Hiller". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 4x6 (one surface). English actress Wendy Hiller (1912-2003) preferred theater to film, performing on London and Broadway stages for over half a century, beginning with Love on the Dole (1934) and concluding with the West End production of Driving Miss Daisy (1988). She was a favorite of George Bernard Shaw, who wanted her cast in his plays and films. (As Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion (1938), she became the first British actress in a British film to be nominated for an Oscar.) She won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for Separate Tables (1958), and received a third nomination for A Man for All Seasons (1966). She became an Officer of the British Empire in 1971, a Dame Commander of the Empire in 1975. Fine condition.
