Dan Duryea inscribes a Christmas card
Christmas Card inscribed and signed: "Hi Ivey-/Dan". Color, 6x4½ folded. Front greeting: "We bring gifts of love for our little Brother, born this day in a manger". Inside verse by John Greenleaf Whittier: "Somehow, not only for Christmas, But all the long year through, The joy that you give to others, Is the joy that comes back to you, Dan Duryea". Dan Duryea (1907-1968), known for his bad-guy roles, was cast as the sniveling Leo Hubbard in 1939's The Little Foxes. This Broadway production was converted into a film in 1941, with many members of the original cast--including Duryea--making their Hollywood debuts. Duryea continued playing supporting roles in films until he scored in 1945's The Woman in the Window. Thereafter, he was given star billing, most often as a heavy. In 1968, shortly before his death from a recurring heart ailment, Duryea was cast as Eddie Jacks in 67 episodes of TV's Peyton Place. In Sky Commando (1953), Duryea played an unpopular commanding officer who turned heroic in the end. Fine condition.
