With Bonanza a big hit, Blocker signs a four-year extension of his
original contract, at a higher salary in each subsequent year.
Documentary signed: "Dan Blocker", 2p, 8½x11. No place, 1961 August
17. Blocker signs p2 of an Amendment to his Recorded Television Series
Contract with California National Productions, Inc., the series producer,
originally dated 1959 March 16. The Amendment stipulates Blocker's per program
payment as $2,000 in the first year, $2,500 in the second, $3,000 in the third,
and $3,250 in the fourth, with progressively higher rewards for reruns as well,
starting at $612.50 for the first rerun in the third year. Dan Blocker
(1928-1972) portrayed Eric "Hoss" Cartwright on Bonanza from
1959 until his sudden death in May 1972 at the age of 43. Blocker had made
his film debut in 1955 in Hook a Crook, and he also appeared as a guest
star in several TV series, beginning in 1957. Blocker also started and owned
the Bonanza steak house chain. Staple holes in upper left
