Carbon Typed DS: "Dana Andrews" in ink under "Agreed to", 1p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, circa 1961 November-December. In letter form to Andrews from Theatre Guild Productions, Inc. and Joel Schenker. This document refers to "a supplement amendment to our various agreements with you in connection with the play THE CAPTAINS AND THE KINGS". In part: "You have agreed to a reduction of the compensation payable to you pursuant to your Equity contract in the aggregate amount of $12,000. over an eight week period beginning with the week ending November 11...we have agreed to and do hereby assign to you a sum equal to 6% of the net profits...." Also signed by a representative of Theatre Guild Productions, Inc. We were unable to find information on Andrews appearing in this play. Andrews had previously appeared on Broadway in 1958-1959. The Captains and the Kings was also the title of a popular novel published by Jennifer Johnston in 1972. In 1961, Andrews guest starred on an episode of The Barbara Stanwyck Show. Dana Andrews (1909-1992) appeared in such films as The Ox-Bow Incident (as the innocent lynching victim, 1943), Laura (1944), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and Airport 1975. He also starred in the television series Bright Promise (1969-1970) and made a number of made-for-TV movies. Andrews was President of the Screen Actors Guild from 1963-1965. On thin paper. Lightly creased, not at signatures. Staple holes and ½-inch diameter hole at upper left margin. Nicked at upper edge and mid-right blank edge. Overall, fine condition.
