college dormitory
Typed letter signed: "Daniel C. Roper" in black ink. 1 page,
7x9¼. Written on personal Secretary of Commerce letterhead. April 22, 1935.
Washington, D.C. In full: "Dear Dr. Holt: I am very glad to learn from
your telegram that the Public Works Administration has granted your petition and
that you will now be able to have the new dormitory constructed. It has been a
pleasure to be of any help I could in this connection and I hope that this
program of expansion will greatly redound to the increase welfare and
development of Rollins College. Very sincerely". Daniel C. Roper (1867-1943)
was a South Carolina state legislator and committee staffer in both houses of
the US Congress before becoming Assistant Postmaster General under President
Wilson. He was chairman of Wilson's re-election campaign, and then
Chairman of the US Tariff Commission (1917) and Commissioner of Internal
Revenue (1917-1920). Out of office during the Republican 1920s, he became
President Roosevelt's Secretary of Commerce (1933-1938) and US Ambassador to
Canada (1939). Daniel C. Roper (1867-1943) was a South
