GAJDUSEK (1923-2008), of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, and BLUMBERG (1925-2011), of the Institute for Cancer Research, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1976 for their discoveries concerning new mechanisms for the origin and dissemination of infectious diseases.
