DANIEL FROHMAN. ALS: "With best wishes/I am/always
sincerely/Danl. Frohman", 1¼p, folded to 5x8. Grand Hotel (Paris), no
date, Tuesday. To Miss Roosevelt. In full: "I am very sorry I
shall not have an opportunity of seeing you. I leave in the morning for London:
then on Friday to N.Y. per 'Columbia.' My agent in Paris is Miss Elizabeth
Marbury. She is here for a few weeks. If you like I shall be happy to leave the
matter in her hands for me. And if you w'd like to talk with her, she can be
addressed at the Grand Hotel de Bretagne Rue Caumartier. I have been here but
two days & w'd call this eve'g, but I am to see 'Les Demi-Vierges.'"
Possibly written circa 1924 or 1936, as we have found reference to a
production of Les Demi-Vierges, based on the book by Marcel Prévost, in
1924 and the film version appeared in 1936. Daniel Frohman (1851-1940) was a
theater manager/producer who was responsible for The Count of Monte
Christo (1912), The Days of Days (1914) and The Witching Hour
(1916). The older brother of Charles Frohman, Daniel formed a company that
managed his brothers' theatrical stars after Charles' death in 1915. Daniel
eventually abandoned producing, but stayed active in the theatre, serving as
President of the Actors Fund (1904-1940). Lightly creased with folds, vertical
fold touches the "n" in Danl. Light show through of ink, not at signature.
½-inch paper separation at top of vertical fold. Lightly soiled. Overall, fine
condition.
